Tolton Cause for

Canonization

Father Augustus Tolton's cause for sainthood has been introduced in the Archdiocese of Chicago.  The son of slaves, Fr. Tolton was the first American diocesan priest of African descent.  This video documents the life of Fr. Tolton and the growing support and excitement over his possible canonization.

A journey with God, traveling in the footsteps of Venerable Augustus Tolton. This pilgrimage in April, 2012, included Bishop Joseph N. Perry, the local postulator of Tolton's cause for Canonization, Dr. C. Vanessa White of Catholic Theological Union, Andrew Lyke, the Director of the Office for Black Catholics, and several Black Catholics from the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Diocese of Joliet.
